Rescued by the Berserker The Berserker Brides Book 1 edition by Lee Savino The Brit Paranormal Romance eBooks
Hazel has been raised at a nunnery, told she isn’t that special. But it turns out that she has a form of earth magic, the kind that makes her attractive to an ancient power trying to revive itself from its corpse-like state. Escaping that Corpse King’s minions, right when she is to be sacrificed to him, seems impossible. That is, until she meets an equally impossible creature—a Berserker.Rescued by the Berserkers is a great entry into Lee Savino’s wonderful Berserker world, where many years ago a witch cursed warriors, making them unimaginably strong fighters for their king—at the cost of their humanity. Now they bear beasts inside them, which are slowly taking them over. And only the love of a special type of woman can save them. For Knut, that’s Hazel.
Knut is that rarest of things, a lone Berserker. Most of the Berserkers have formed mind bonds with their brethren to help stave off their inner beasts from completely taking over their minds. Knut hasn’t done that. But that strength becomes his Achilles heel over the course of this story. It leads him to make rash decisions when it comes to Hazel, not realizing his beast is clouding his mind when all he can think about is the wondrousness that Hazel is to him.
Hazel is a lovely character, and a great introduction to the women from the nunnery who will serve as future heroines in his series. I loved the way she approached Knut with a combination of both concern and need, realizing that what he was differed from the men she had previously known.
This novella focuses intensely on Knut, Hazel, and their relationship. I loved the growing connection between these two. I also really loved seeing a more straightforward female/male relationship. It made for a satisfying contrast to the ménage stories that are the core of the Berserker saga. However, because the overall Berserker story has been built up over several novels, I wouldn’t recommend starting with this one. Go explore the series from the beginning!

Rescued by the Berserker The Berserker Brides Book 1 edition by Lee Savino The Brit Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Am I ever happy Ms Savino has continued this wonderful Saga of the Berserkers and more happy to see that there are way more spaewives for these Berserker Warriors that were created, no cursed so selfishly.
They have found a way to control the beast within, but only by a special woman, a spaewife. As Knuts hunts for the 3 wolves that escaped with Fluer, he comes upon a sweet fragrance that he just can't turn away from and when he sees Hazel he cannot control the urge to grab her and run.
Hazel has been under the control of the abbey all her life, she and her friends are all orphans that have been raised by the nuns and now are unknowing prisoners of the evil Warrior King. They are all spaewives and do not know that they are destined to be the means to bring the Warrior King to life, but if they are rescued by the Berserkers they will be willing brides, not a means to an end.
Hazel has always been told that her fever is the wicked curse of lust, until Knut teaches her that it is not a curse, but a blessing for him as well as for her. Will Hazel who has always known obedience be a willing submissive to the mighty warrior, or will she go back to the only life she has ever known.
Knut is the strongest of the pack after the Alpha's and he is a lone wolf, he doesn't have a bond brother that can keep him from losing control of his beast, only a mate could. That is why when he comes upon Hazel, his mate, he is willing to disobey his Alphas in order to bond with her. Will he convince Hazel and be able to control his beast in time to do so?
This Saga is getting so good!
While this book is the first in what I think of as a spin-off series from Ms. Savino's original Berserker series, it is considered a standalone novella. The new series is entitled the Berserker Brides. However, I would strongly suggest that you read the first five books in the original series before starting this book. You will miss a significant amount of background knowledge of the characters, their history, and their development if you don't read the other books first. However, as I stated, it is designed as a standalone book. It's a bridge between Claimed by the Berserkers (book 5 in the Berserker series) and this new series. In my opinion, it's yet another example of Lee Savino's excellent storytelling. This book is well-worth reading. Since it's a novella, it's a short read that I accomplished in under an hour.
This is the story of Hazel and Knut. Knut is one of the Berserkers, a group of superior warriors cursed long ago by a witch. The spell the witch cast endowed each of the Berserkers with unimaginable power, strength, recuperative abilities, and made them all the most fearsome of warriors. But it came at a terrible price. The Beast within must be controlled. To lose control would mean total death and destruction to any and all. Such a terrible price to pay, even if such great power comes with it. The Alphas of the Berserker clans have learned that the Beast within will kill them all eventually unless there's a way to calm and soothe it. But what could possibly have this ability? Is anything like this even possible? Where does the answer lie?
Hazel is an "orphan" living at the abbey on the same island on which two separate Berserker clans have taken refuge for decades. The Berserkers live separately from the island natives, only interacting when absolutely necessary. Hazel certainly has no idea that the Berserkers even exist, much less what they are. She's lived a very unremarkable life at the abbey. The nuns are very strict with all the orphans. The friar who runs the abbey is...strange, to say the very least. And then there are the "Grey Men" who are the silent guardians of the abbey, very bizarre and very silent.
One day, a new woman is brought to the abbey. Her name is Fleur, and unlike all the other women at the abbey, she is neither a nun nor a young orphan. She's a fully grown woman. There's never been an outsider brought to the abbey before who wasn't either a nun or an orphan. This is totally unexpected and unprecedented. Why is Fleur there? The friar is extremely disturbed by Fleur's presence. What does he intend to do with Fleur? As Hazel accidentally stumbles into the room where Fleur is being held captive, she immediately realizes something's not right. After talking with Fleur, Hazel realizes Fleur's being held prisoner. But why? And while Hazel knows there's danger if she involves herself in abbey matters that are beyond her responsibilities, she feels an immediate kinship with Fleur. She knows she has to try to help her. But doing so puts Hazel at great risk. Both she and Fleur soon face grave peril, loss, terror, and even possibly death.
With this novella, Lee Savino has once again shown her ability to take a storyline, continue and expand on it, with the end result being a totally thrilling and engrossing novella. She successfully bridges the gap between the original Berserker series and this new Berserker Brides series with her amazing writing technique. I was so engrossed in the book that I never even looked at the feature showing how many minutes were left in the book, not once! I was amazed at the depth of the story, the emotions involved, the development of the relationships in the book, and how this novella completely bridged the gap from the original series to a completely new series in a book that was so short yet so compelling and enthralling. I truly believe Lee Savino is an extremely talented author. I can only say, kudos Lee! You have yet another success on your hands!
I would be remiss if I did not make one final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains very adult themes, explicit language, sexual scenes, violence, and paranormal/shapeshifter elements. If you don't enjoy erotic romance containing these elements, please carefully consider your purchase before buying this or any other book in either of these series. PLEASE DON'T BUY ANY BOOK IN A GENRE YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY AND THEN LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE BOOK AS IT'S SIMPLY NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works hard to provide such great books, and if you know before you purchase any book that you'll object to the subject matter contained therein, you'll be doing not only yourself, but the author, an extreme disservice. But if you do enjoy spicy, erotic romance with paranormal/shapeshifter elements, I would definitely recommend both the Berserker and Berserker Brides series.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
